City of Leawood Launches “Leawood: Rooted & Reaching” Comprehensive Planning Initiative
The City of Leawood announced “Leawood: Rooted & Reaching,” a community-wide planning initiative designed to shape the city’s future while honoring its strong foundation and unique character.
This effort will update Leawood’s Comprehensive Plan and Development Ordinance for the first time in nearly 20 years. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range guide that outlines a city’s goals and policies for how it will grow and evolve—touching on land use, housing, transportation, parks, sustainability, economic development, and more.
The plan will serve as a roadmap to help Leawood preserve its quality of life, support thoughtful growth, and meet the changing needs of its residents and businesses.
“This is more than just a policy document—it’s our shared opportunity to imagine what comes next for Leawood,” said Mayor Marc Elkins. “We want to hear from every resident, business owner, and stakeholder about the future they envision for our city.”
